Techniques

At OG Physiotherapy & Sports Massage, a variety of treatments are available.

The base of most sessions will include the main areas of sports/deep tissue massage, beginning with…

Effleurage: A gentle, gliding massage technique that involves long strokes across the skin. It helps warm up the muscles, improve circulation, and relax the body. Often used at the beginning and end of a massage, effleurage promotes a sense of calm and prepares the muscles for deeper work.

followed by…

Petrissage: Involves kneading, squeezing, and lifting the muscles to promote deeper relaxation and improve blood flow. This technique targets the muscle tissue more intensely than effleurage and helps release tension, break down adhesions, and enhance flexibility.

Other techniques

Soft Tissue Release: A precise manual approach that applies controlled pressure and specific movement patterns to relax hypertonic muscles and fascia, improving tissue pliability and reducing neuromuscular tension.

Trigger Pointing: A targeted manual technique that applies sustained pressure to hyperirritable spots within muscle fibers (trigger points) to deactivate taut bands, alleviate referred pain, and restore normal muscle function.

Deep Friction: A form of cross-fiber massage that applies sustained, focused pressure to scar tissue or adhesions, encouraging realignment of collagen fibers and restoring normal tissue extensibility and function.

Dry Cupping: The application of vacuum suction via cups to the skin surface, which enhances local blood flow, facilitates fascial release, and promotes lymphatic drainage to aid in tissue healing and pain reduction.

Muscle Scraping: Also known as Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization (IASTM). It is a soft tissue mobilization technique involving the use of a specialized tool to apply repetitive, controlled strokes along muscle fibers, breaking down adhesions, increasing circulation, and facilitating tissue regeneration.
